Unbelivable live....are the first words that spring to mind when I talk about Groove Armada. I've always been a fan, to some degree.. but October just gone which seems like years ago now, is where I saw them live at Brixton Academy in London. The night started with me and a very best friend of mine, Emily, getting ready at her home in Chelmsford - rollers in our hair, leather jackets and each a very large glass of wine each as we had a catch up.. a couple of tube stops later, a taxi picking her boyfriend, our friend Shannon and Dems up on the way we were there. Letting Brandon wee in the police stations car park and have a smoke there too wasnt our best idea yet but a quick get away added to the excitement as usual ha..Anyway, as we waited (not so patiently) for a good hour over due the time they ticket said they were due on...we filled up on vodka redbull and again, waited for Groove to come on. But when the lights went down, and the crowd started cheering I knew I was in for a treat!
I have to say their albums are all very different, but very the same...its a strange one. Groove are brilliant at building up a song. if you know their music you get this great feeling of excitement as each song begins. I can't pick facourites very easily, but I am forcing myself too for this post....arghhh its a tough one! Ermm, ok.. going to go with Paper Romance/Time&Space/and the classic SuperStylin'. Their album "Black light" is brilliant, and they recently (i say recently but its a few months now) have released "White Light" - a remix of all the songs on Black Light... does sound like a bit of a cop out - but I liked their idea behind it.. you've probably noticed that the moment someone like Ellie Goulding/Adele/White Lies releases a song, there is some little DJ pouncing on that single and bringing out a remix. So the fact that Groove could do this themselves showed initiative.
To finish the seeing them live story anyway, we left excited as little kids, realised we needed get home... so roamed the busy streets of Brixton, I accidently ordered 18 chicken nuggets at McDonalds, we got a night bus back to Liverpool Street, then fell asleep in a taxi back to Chelmsford and all got woken up by the taxi driver who seemed to turn into our Dad for a good 40 minutes - making sure we were safe and woke us up in the politist way ever! Very standard evening I would say.
So much love for Groove anyway, and even more love for the friends I got to see them with at Brixton.
